Our beachfront, upmarket establishment offers 3 luxurious self-catering chalets, fully equipped, with private built-in BBQ on the stoep. DSTV, water sports at your doorstep, diamond mine trips, 4x4 routes, cross border trips to the Rictersveld / Ais-Ais Park and Orange River rafting are close by.

Chalet no 2
Chalet no 2 compromises two bedrooms, 1 double bed and two singles, a very well equipped kitchen with build in oven and hob, lounge with big comfy leather couches, flat screen TV and full DsTV, neat bathroom with shower and BBQ on the stoep. Last but not least, clean white sandy beach on your doorstep!
Chalet no 3
Lay in bed, only need to lift one hand to open the blind and an awesome view of the perfect calm bay and long white beach. This chalet compromises of two bedrooms, 1 double bed and two singles, open plan lounge, dining and kitchen in one, bathroom with shower, as in chalet no 2, leather couches, flat screen TV and full DsTV. BBQ on the stoep. 10 steps to the beach.
The front garden offers spectacular views of the ocean and beach and is basically nearly on the beach. It leads to the upper deck that has a 360' view of Mc Dougalls Bay and the Atlantic Ocean... perfect for a sundowner!
Facilities:
• All our chalets are equipped with flat screen TV’s and full DsTV.
• We provide all linen, towels and starter pack of soap and shampoo. (bring your own beach towels).
• Starter packs of tea, coffee, sugar and milk are supplied.
• No meals provided, but restaurants are only 5 minutes away.
• We have a strict smoke-free policy, but provide ashtrays for outside stoeps and deck.
• A laundry and cleaning service is available at a reasonable rate.
• Unfortunately, no pets allowed.
Port Nolloth:
"Divers Haven on the Diamond Coast...". Port Nolloth is situated 144km north-west of Springbok. It was established in 1854 as a small vessel harbour as well as a railway junction for the copper mining industry. The harbour's narrow and shallow entrance made it unsuitable for ore carriers. The copper for export was brought to the coast along a 96-mile long narrow gauge railway from the mines near Okiep. It continues to serve this purpose until well into the 20th century, but was never called on to handle any significant volume of cargo.
During more recent years Port Nolloth emerged as a centre of small-scale recovery mining. Perfect diamonds were discovered 6 miles south of Port Nolloth in 1925 and the village came to life once more, buzzing with popularity and high fever. In the 1960's it was discovered that this was the only coast in the world where gem quality diamonds could be dredged from the bottom of the sea by remote deep sea operations or by hardy divers. Sometimes many diamonds are found (a jackpot!) and sometimes few or nothing at all. Boats have come and gone and fortunes have been made and lost.
Port Nolloth is also the only holiday resort along the diamond coast. Fishing trawlers and dredgers against spectacular sunsets and the clean beaches makes this town an ideal holiday spot. Examples of the Nama culture can be seen at Lekkersing, which is inland, north of Port Nolloth. The bay on which the Port sits was known by the indigenous Namaqua people as "Aukwatowa" ("where the water took away the old man"). Its location was marked by Bartolomeu Dias on his epic voyage around the Cape of Good Hope in 1487.
Attractions and Activities
Port Nolloth Museum Centre:
The Port Nolloth Museum Centre actually consists of two small but well done Museum sites. The Port Nollth Museum is dedicated to the history of Port Nolloth and the culture in the area. It includes exhibits on the Khoekhoen, town history, diamond diving and shipwrecks. The Port Nolloth biodiversity of the two contrasting environments: the Atlantic Ocean and the desert-like areas of the coastal dunes and the Richtersveld. Live exhibits of small marine creatures, reptiles and invertebrates are combined with museum displays. Both museum sites are also suitable for the younger generation. Local arts and crafts can be purchased in the museum shops.
Birding:
Port Nolloth is a good place for birding and more than 80 species have been recorded including many endemics. Highlights for birders are black cormorant, cape cormorant, crowned cormorant, African black oystercatcher, hartiaubs gull, three species of sunbirds and barlow's lark.
Tours:
Local tour operators offer tours into the Richtersveld (including the Orange River) and diamond tours to Kleinzee are possible. |
